The Patronage of Mary Development School (PMDS) hosted the first Marian Exhibit in Southern Cebu last November 5 to 16, 2020 at the Escuela Catolica, Poblacion, Boljoon, Cebu. With the theme: “Gazing at Mary in the Year of Ecumenism and Interreligious Dialogue,” the said grand display of around 30 Marian images, statues, documents and other related religious articles aimed at deepening the people’s love to the Lord Jesus Christ through the devotion to the Mother of Church and at emulating the virtues of the Blessed Virgin Mary: her purity, prudence, humility, fruitfulness, devotedness, obedience, poverty, patience and mercy, especially in these challenging times of COVID19 crisis.
The ecclesiastical and aesthetical gallery featured four themes, namely: Mary in the Bible, Marian Apparitions, Marian Devotions and Titles, and Marian Dogmas. As a zone of compassion and tolerance, PMDS strives to promote Ecumenism and Interreligious Dialogues that will bear lasting peace and progress to all peoples, as part of its Catholic education mission.
In rationalizing the event, PMDS school director Dr. Rouel A. Longinos stressed the responsibility of the academe, especially the Catholic schools, to evangelize the role of Mary in the salvation of mankind. He reiterated the effectiveness of the visual arts as tools in educating the youth, who are considered as living treasures of society, to sustain and strengthen Christianization in the Philippines. Dr. Longinos hoped that this event would inspire a more meaningful celebration of the quincentennial commemorations in the country by 2021.
His Excellency Most Rev. Midyphil Billiones, DD., Auxiliary Bishop of Cebu, officially opened the exhibit. Msgr. Arthur R. Navales, PC, Rev. Fr. Ric Anthony Reyes, OSA, Rev. Fr. Mac Jason Bacalla, Rev. Fr. Lydio Felizarta, and Rev. Fr. Kent Luigi Martinez assisted him in rendering the solemn rites. Boljoon mayor Merlou Derama, former mayor Wargong Derama and wife Babeth Derama witnessed the momentous event.
