To strongly manifest the value of Excellence and to validate the quality of its research outputs, the Patronage of Mary Development School held the 2020 Inter-Department Research Summit, oral and poster presentations on March 14, 2020. Themed: “Investigation, Innovation and Integration: Validating 21st Century Practices through Research”, the summit was participated in by the students of the Elementary, Junior High School and Senior High School departments.
Oral presentations were evaluated according to these criteria: research problem (15%); methodology (20%); results and discussions (15%); conclusion and recommendations (10%); over-all quality of the paper (10%); and oral presentation (30%).
Research posters, on the other hand, were rated according to research problem (20%); methodology (20%); results and discussions (20%); conclusion and recommendations (20%); over-all quality of the paper (10%); and ability to answer questions (10%).
Dr. Rosel Ranario of Cebu Normal University, Dr. Wilfe Besin of Southwestern University PHINMA, Prof. Gianne Rensen Antonio of the University of Cebu College of Arts and Sciences and Prof. Graeme Ferdinand Armecin of the Department of Social Welfare Development Regional Office VII comprised the panel of reactors / judges.
After the presentation, the winners of the poster presentation were declared. The winners were: 3rd place- Health Seeking Behaviour among Student Smokers by John Brian Gimena, Earl Michael Filosopo, Mark Tyler Benologa; 2nd place- Attitude towards Technology among 10th Graders by Cybille Jean Pepino; and 1st place- Citrus reticulata (Mandarin Orange), Azaderachtaindica (Neem Tree) And Morindacitrifolia (Noni) as potential Culicidae (Mosquito) Larvicides by Timothy Robert Estella, Allan Felices, Hannie Jhay Legara, Judy Ann Estella and Mary Gold Andujar.
The best researchers in the elementary department were Jayzel Sestoso, Kent Harvey Ezekiel Getubig, Zachery Helious Bernaldez, Jen Zephanie Canillo and Christian Jayrus Sombero for their study titled “Lava Lamp as Decoration”; for the junior high, Christine Jessa Alagar and Rhea Mae Altomera won the best in research award for their study titled “Boungainvillea Spectabilis (Bougainvillea) as an Ingredient of Fabric Dye”, and from the Senior High School, Buhay mo, May Pake ako: Gossiping Culture of the Rural Folks was declared best research which was conducted by Rese Stacey Ubanan.
Vicente Miguel N. Alcala and Rese Stacey Ubanan were chosen as the Best Oral Presenters in the PMDS Research Summit.
The said Summit is a convergence of student researchers who have proven their excellent research skills and have exhibited exceptional collaborative skills, creativity, communication and critical thinking skills.
